The house was built by Deacon Timothy Pratt in 1746 and served as a private school in the 1790's. In our Pratt House Scrap Book, you can read an excerpt from a girl's journal who attended school here. Timothy Pratt was a carpenter and served as a Deacon in the church across the street from the property.

When visiting Old Saybrook and the surrounding shoreline area be sure to take sometime to enjoy the local beaches, bike along our 10 mile loop and perhaps take in a show.  The Goodspeed Opera House, Ivoryton Playhouse and Spirit Of Broadway are just a short distance away.  Now located on Main Street in Old Saybrook is the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center is a non-profit performing arts organization located in an historic theatre/town hall on Main Street in Old Saybrook. Originally opened in 1911 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Center has been renovated with public funds from the Town of Old Saybrook and donations raised by the Trustees of the Center. It includes a 250-seat theatre and a small museum (still under construction) honoring Katharine Hepburn, Old Saybrook’s most celebrated resident.
